NVIDIA Quadro® FX 500 by PNY Technologies® Graphics Board of Choice for SolidWorks™ Trainer
|
VB CAD provides software development and training for companies utilizing CAD software. Their training has benefited companies such as Nucor Steel, Disney Imagineering, AMD, and Universal Studios. In addition, Jerry Winters writes CAD-programming books. His newest book, "SolidWorks 2004 VBA" comes with a training DVD that users can view to help them get a head start on learning the content in the book. The entire DVD was created on a PC utilizing the NVIDIA Quadro by PNY Technologies graphics board - the video capturing, the video editing, the audio and the DVD Authoring.
Winters' relied heavily on his system (P4 2.8 ghz,1GB RAM) to produce the SolidWorks training DVD. As a trainer, he demonstrates all the aspects of SolidWorks, including PhotoWorks (a SolidWorks add-in that allows for photo-realistic image rendering) and SolidWorks Animator (simplifies the creation of animations using SolidWorks). He used Adobe® Premiere® Pro for all his video production work and Cakewalk Sonar 3 Studio Edition: Digital Audio Creation for the recording of voiceovers, audio samples and music creation.
Performance Enhanced Using RealView Technology
According to Winters: "NVIDIA Quadro FX500 by PNY Technologies implements RealView, which allows me to experience real-time material rendering in SolidWorks. When the video hardware takes a greater portion of the processing burden, I am more effective in my work because I am not sitting still, waiting for things to happen. The board's open architecture allows software to take full advantage of the graphics feature set resulting in significant improvements in applications performance and productivity.SolidWorks RealView is a big help; it lets me see photo-realistic models as I design."
"Working with the NVIDIA Quadro FX500 graphics board from PNY Technologies gives me real-time video processing and clear distinctive video output. I can enjoy this real-time productivity without sacrificing quality."

Real-Time Productivity Without Sacrificing Quality
"With my audio software, I can get real-time audio effects. In Adobe Premiere Pro, I get real-time effects, compositing, and transitions. With SolidWorks, I get real-time materials. Working in real-time is what really makes me productive, "said Winters. "A professional graphics board is one piece of the real-time puzzle. Selecting best-in-class components such as Creative Labs Audigy2 ZS sound card gives me real-time audio processing and clear distinctive sound. Working with the NVIDIA Quadro FX by PNY Technologies graphics board gives me real-time video processing and clear distinctive video output. I can enjoy this real-time productivity without sacrificing quality."
"When engaging in Digital Content Creation, creativity should be the focus. Waiting for your models to render just to change a material and wait for it to render again wastes not only money but can hinder the creative process. Adobe Premiere Pro provides real-time previews of effects, transitions, etc. The graphics board has a huge impact on how
smoothly the previews play,"said Winters.
"The ability to have two monitors running simultaneously is significant when working with audio and video production software. Although doubling the viewing area doesn't necessarily double my productivity, it does allow me to work much faster because I can spread things out and view everything at once. Having to cycle through open MDI child windows of a program to look at a setting wastes time. Windows does a great job allowing multiple applications to run at the same time -- when I can view multiple applications simultaneously, or expand the view of a single application, I am much more productive," said Winters.
Competitive, Productive And More Profitable
"My customers pay me for the time spent on a project. The longer it takes for a computer to render images or refresh views in SolidWorks, the more my customers pay. The less time spent with these operations handled by the GPU, as is the case with NVIDIA Quadro by PNY Technologies Graphics Boards, the more competitive I can be on bidding jobs and completing them on time and under budget. If my competitor is waiting for things to happen on his computer while I am cruising along at top speed, I am not only more competitive, but I am also more productive and more profitable," said Winters.
Reliability Is Key
"Peace of mind can't be overlooked. If someone is using a spreadsheet and word processing software from time to time, the GPU can just coast along because so little is happening. When I am working with SolidWorks and Adobe Premiere Pro, the GPU is revved up as much as the CPU. The computer has to be able to handle the abuse these programs provide for continuous time periods. NVIDIA Quadro FX by PNY Technologies graphics boards have an excellent reputation of handling the workload," said Winters.
